Hypothetical for the court: ballots cast in person on election day are loaded on to a truck for transport to a counting center. The truck breaks down, and its contents do not arrive at the counting center until days later. Under appellant reasoning, should those ballots not be counted?
The way I like to think of it is that Cheney isn't actually voting for Harris. He doesn't support her or her policies. He's not suddenly a Democrat. What he is doing is casting a vote against Trump, for the reasons that he stated - that Trump is a threat to the nation.
