Could anyone point to 18th-19th-c. paintings (especially of women) where we see watches or clocks? I'm thinking of this one of the Comtesse de Buffon as an example (she was quite a character; maybe the watch suggests that getting involved w her meant the guy was on borrowed time).
What an exquisitely beautiful kittycat. i bet he knows it too! I hope he spoils you as much as you spoil him!
Aberdeen plans to remove all degrees and research in modern languages. Utterly disgraceful. Please consider signing this petition www.change.org/p/save-langu...
On 30 November of this year, all staff in the Modern Languages, Translation and Interpreting section of the University of Aberdeen were told that they are at risk of redundancy, opening a false choice...
This gives a whole new twist to the expression "the bee's knees". (a glance at body parts I definitely didn't need but my goodness his are a sight to be hold!)
i love the improbably located Wallace Fountain in the foreground!
this was part of a wonderful 2021 exhibit of women's unusual needlework projects: americanart.si.edu/exhibitions/... I wonder if her family knows how famous her embroidered gown has become! I grew up near where she supposedly lived but don't recall the name. It's remarkable that her work survived!
You can also see a gravestone attributed to her at Find a grave here www.findagrave.com/memorial/808... But no one added her death date, suggesting the children for whom she made the embroidery were not aware of her death (or not in a position to pay to engrave the stone)--moved away, poor, dead?
There's a facebook post here by the art dealer (outsider art) who found it in an auction in Nashville. He recounts its being sold to a friend (Hemphill) who gifted it to the Smithsonian. www.facebook.com/groups/29952...
