It is critical thinking that really worries them, and almost by definition you cannot 'indoctrinate' students to think critically. The fact that they think education equates to indoctrination says more about their own model of education than about the reality of what happens in universities.

I see that it is now 'Remembrance weekend' rather than the usual Remembrance Sunday.
Debate seems to encourage a "winner takes all" zero-sum mentality (a set of monlogues), which can quickly become toxic on social media. Dialogue, as a more constructive approach, would be preferable but it is difficult to achieve once a platform heads in the direction of incessant debate.

The Brexiters would probably insist on a supermajority clause in any Rejoin vote, so of course they think that now 🤔 What would they have been like if they had a majority for Brexit but didn't meet the 60% threshold? It would have been called a fix. Referendums are not the answer to social divisions
Although my personal preference is for Mastodon, I think that Bluesky looks best placed at the moment to inherit the Twitter mantle once that place finally goes into meltdown. The question is whether Bluesky will inherit the trolls and abusive posters too. Hopefully not, but I would not bet against.
I am sorry to hear that you had a negative experience. I have been on Mastodon for around a year and not had anything like that (although I am not the most prolific poster). I am also trying out Bluesky and Threads, which are both OK so far. I just wish they could all be interoperable.
I marvel at people who can pick things casually from a menu without omitting items, specifying how things should be done or substituting items. The whole process of ordering can be a trauma.
