So, honest question: when I've let leaves just sit where they fall, I end up with bare dirt. Is it a problem if I mow the laves to mulch them?

We’ve done this in the past. Some of the larger leaves can do damage to turf. So we’ve used a mulching blade or better… an old push reel mower to chop up the leaf debris in the lawn.
