"Kids today don't even know what tapes/CDs are!!" Well, TIL of the existence of at home recordable vinyl records beginning in the 30s.

The Library for the Performing Arts recently inventoried the Ralph F. Phillips Collection of Wagner-Nichols Discs, containing nearly 3,000 Wagner-Nichols instantaneous flexible discs which consist of home recordings of radio broadcasts from the 1940s through the late ‘50s. Radio was the dominant form of entertainment and information in this time, and Phillips's collection captures AM and FM broadcasts by New York City area stations such as WQXR, NBC, and ABF among others. Included in the diverse array of recordings are live performances by renowned artists and radio premieres of contemporary works, operas, and comedy shows, as well as snippets of interviews, speeches, and advertisements.
