I’d already decided the walk home this afternoon was the most soaked I’d ever gotten in Cardiff rain and then I had to wade through a huge puddle halfway up my shins to get to small person’s after school and then wade back through it carrying him. In trainers! #CardiffRainySeason#USandUKpantsSoaked
🎵 They say there is an orange fash Sustained by hate and Russian cash, And if you vote for him he's gonna screw ya. He gave a speech and his brain went wrong; A singer's vexed that they played this song; But no-one reads the words to "Hallelujah"...
Yup. Writing is thinking. So if you write a shitty first draft, you did some thinking and are on your way! If you got “AI” to write the draft, you haven’t thought AND now you’re trying to fix up what some non-thinking robot “thought.” You just put yourself 30 yards behind the starting line.
I can live with this 🤣 Check out my Veggie ID! You can create yours at sophie006liu.github.io/vegetal/
Two of these groupings have to do with U.K. English dialects so surely this is #linguistics
I'm doing a new, regular blog for the EMC about A-Level Eng Lang stuff, so for this first one I've started with the story about Welsh accents and dialect levelling that came out of the work of @drswissmiss.bsky.socialenglishandmedia.co.uk/blog/a-level...
How a newspaper article about dialect levelling in Wales can prompt wider thinking about language change in relation to accent and dialect.
Nothing in language is permanent except the conviction that standards are somehow always falling.
I know you're not meant to read the comments, but the complaints at end of the BBC article about my research are just making me laugh.
I was on research leave last year and it was awesome to be back in the classroom today! Bring on more sociolinguistics teaching (tomorrow and Wednesday) ☺️
