Wow do I feel seen right now. And the "you won't be able to hire yourself" is something I've been saying for years to folks starting their own labs.

I will never give the full story of all the reasons I high-tailed it out of academia… but this, and the lack of acknowledgement by people with power, is on that list. Thanks for saying it, because I sure as hell was not allowed to when I was a prof.
