Hey folks, if you notice my absence it's cos the body of my dear friend Carol, who's been missing since January, was found in local woods earlier in the week, and... perhaps understandably I'm having trouble focussing on much. Normal service will be resumed etc. Take care of each other, be kind.

Here’s another writing/voting cartoon from a few years ago:

Title: Some alternative voting systems

1. Murder Mystery:
Candidates are invited to spend a week in an isolated country house. Votes are cast every day and by night, whoever has the lowest number of votes is murdered in an unusual manner.

2. Epic Fantasy:
Candidates are taken to the realm of darkness and imprisoned in ice. Voters must defeat the undead then use their ballot papers to make a fire and melt the ice of their chosen candidate.

3. Magic Realism:
Candidates are turned into cats who dance in the moonlight to a flute played by a 100-year-old woman. Ballot papers are thrown down a well and the winner's name appears in an avocado.

‘Politicians shamelessly chase votes from the Crime Fiction community’ (my cartoon for this weekend’s Guardian Books).

Title: Politicians shamelessly chase votes from the Crime Fiction community

Image One: An old woman leans on her walking stick and looks down at a corpse in the vicarage garden.
Caption: A generous pension increase for seemingly harmless little old ladies who solve two or more serious crimes per year.

Images Two and Three: A boy in a cap and knickerbockers spies on some dubious characters and a girl in police uniform walks nervously down a dingy alley.
Caption: All eighteen-year-olds must spend weekends meddling in local crime, ora year as an idealistic rookie on the mean streets of the big city.

Image Four: An unkempt middle-aged man in a fedora sits at a messy desk, smoking and adding some bourbon to his coffee.
Caption: An improved pay and benefits package for grizzled detectives who wearily take on last case before retirement.
