Income taxes are progressive.
Also the relationship a church has with the IRS is mostly filing paperwork. You have a much deeper relationship with the contractor for a new roof. And so many churches have oaktag (sic) thermometer posters up showing the progress to funding said new roof. I have so many mental images for this.
