NaNoWriMo’s endorsement of generative AI is like the New York Marathon suggesting that taking an Uber along the route also counts as running the marathon. You did, after all, tell the driver where you wanted to go! Btw this year we’re brought to you by Uber
Reminds me of the 1904 Olympic marathon.
Wasn't NaNoWriMo founded by Silicon Valley nerds who wanted to "disrupt" the novel writing process? Not that surprising that they'd embrace generative AI in the end.
Feels a little gauche but I’d be crazy not to promote @darkuniversepod.bsky.social@daltondeschain.comDarkUniversePod.com
Horror writer Dalton Deschain and film critic Dylan Roth are tasked with reviving the short-lived Dark Universe horror franchise, one movie pitch at a time.
“I ordered this off the menu, but told the chef to hold the onions. Therefore, I have won Top Chef.”
Indeed, the “LLM is accessibility” take is like suggesting that ride sharing with private cars is as accessible as a licensed taxi system because you can check the box that says “I need a wheelchair lift” on your profile. The box was ticked! We did it!!
It's like suggesting strapping yourself to the back of another runner without asking or paying them counts as running the marathon.
This is kinda the perfect metaphor because it illustrates how silly it is to treat it as anything regarding 'accessiblity and ableism'. You're still not actually completing the task you claim, you're just cheating past the work entirely.
Everyone's justifiably giving them shit, but what I think they may really be doing is telling us that they have no way to differentiate betw human and AI.
Running marathons is ableist, after all!
You’ll receive your victory medal from grand marshal Rosie Ruiz!
