i think it's interesting people are ok w/ some fairly extreme 'toxic relationship' stories so long as the charas are acting out of 'love' (for eg yanderes are v popular) but when one chara is toxic with purely selfish motivations & they're cold/calculating people tend to find it much more upsetting
