Found in a folder of family magazine clippings: if you've never had a pizza, do!

From Good Housekeeping, August 1968: the Pizza and the Quiche. "Italy's pizza and France's quiche are savoury tarts or flans with an unforgettable flavour and an endless variety of fillings. If you have never tried them, try now; they are easy to make, marvellous to eat - and excellent value for money"

This made me think back to when I first had pizza. By the time I was a student in London in 1974, Spaghetti House (1950s) and Pizza Express (1965) were well established, and we certainly ate pizza there. I even made some at home. Strange to think how scarce these now familiar ingredients were! This made me think back to when I first had pizza. Mozzarella is almost impossible to find in England, but Bel Paese or Gruyère will do.

When I was 14 - in 1979 - I went on a date to Pizza Express with a boy who'd never eaten pizza before.
