Video absolutely should not be prioritized. Not only does it encourage shitty forms of engagement farming, it's *extremely* expensive to run and it means that, when federation happens, the expected cost of managing a server will be prohibitive and discourage running a service. Use text. It's OK.

Hard agree with Ed here. I think the quality I enjoy most about this platform is that it does not have video.
(if you'd like a ballpark on pricing, somewhere between 50% and 100% of what you see on https://www.mux.com/pricing/video#pay-as-you-go depending on volume and provider. Video is preposterously expensive)
How about e.g. supporting video streaming through webtorrent, where the video works as long as someone's hosting it?
