Webtorrent might work for *downloading* stuff. But for streaming media, you want the blocks in a certain order (first-in first-out) and in 2023 you want the niceties that HLS provides, like adaptive streaming. So probably not, unless there's something I'm missing? (It's been a while.)

If I'm not mistaken, Webtorrent seems to let you stream. As for HLS... it'd nice to have, sure. But not having it would still beat not having anything, wouldn't it?
