Finished Percival Everett's James tonight (making 4 from the #BookerPrize longlist, 3 from the shortlist). It's an incredibly compelling read, & what he does with language is fascinating. It's a subtler, quieter kind of alternate history that he braids together with Twain's original. 💙📚

I can see why it's the current favorite on betting odds to win the Booker. And the prize has gone the last two years to dark, intense books that don't shy away from violence. Who knows? 💙📚
