A problem with the election being during hurricane season is that Republicans still remember how in 2012, Obama & Chris Christie collaborated to recover from Hurricane Sandy, which then helped Obama win reelection, & the lesson Republicans took from that is that they could never let it happen again

I bet there's a piece of paper with that written on it, somewhere.

💯 agree. The GOP don't forget & plan for the long game.

Do you have any contacts with Chris Christie or his administration? He should do some interviews about how he worked together with Obama and DeSantis and Trump are politicizing a natural disaster.

Yep. It also goes against their mantra that the government is evil and broken. Can't show that FEMA is working when we have demonized the federal gov't since Reagan and his "Im from the government and I'm here to help" bullshit..

How sick is that? Disgusting! Party over people! How much lower can the GOP go?

Constituents have a choice. They can see Republicans like DeSantis and Mike Lawler and Mitch McConnell and Rick Scott and Marjorie Taylor Greene and JD Vance actively sabotaging efforts to solve problems, or they can vote for more of the same. That's on voters.

What evidence is there that this helped Obama win the election? It was a prominent media story, but beyond that, I don't recall this being a major factor.

Contemplating what the alternative for residents of New York and New Jersey would have been had Christie and Obama not co-operated and why that is no part of the GOP analysis of he situation. Why isn't "make things better for the people who vote for us" part of their political calculus?

... well shit.

Christie, though, won the subsequent 2013 election by a much greater margin than in 2009 (~22 points versus ~4 points). Shouldn’t that be part of the calculus for purple-state Republicans?
