Well, I’m not sure how old you are, but your education seems lacking. This is all basic grade 7 history.
But, it doesn’t make sense because everyone was a British or French citizen (or Indigenous and not counted, but that’s a whole other thing). There were/are people who didn’t have Canadian citizenship in this country after provinces became part of Dominion and still were British citizens.

The issue is that Canada as a country didn’t exist, it’s like calling the 13 colonies USA. It’s ahistorical. I mean you could be pedantic and say that the Brits used troops and staged from Upper Canada, but that’s what Ontario is known as today.
Growing up between Lake Ontario and Lake Erie has afforded me a healthy dose of WTF of plant life and aquatic life. Also, both lake are cold as hell until the middle of summer and only if it’s been a hot one.
I was a good enough student that I dealt with it, I also took things over their heads to the deans (perk of being a “mature student”). But, I’m hoping that in the 20 years since I’ve been out of Uni, that things have changed a bit.
