a kinda remarkable thing i heard on ezra klein's podcast was Walz *literally* saying that free school meals are important bc "the inequal distribution of domestic labor still falls heavily on women." it's completely correct but someone that looks like him proactively bringing it up blew my mind
Only Nixon could go to China.
Also: it’s normal to have tampons as one of the many hygiene products available in public bathrooms because periods are normal and he doesn’t hate women and girls.
Same! Most women don’t even realize the burden of it. Like the mental burden of having to plan stuff for everyone all the time! It’s just what we do and don’t even really think about it from that perspective.
You ain't lying. My Dad's a great guy, however: School lunches made by Mom: ~4,940 School lunches made by Dad: ~0
Also he can talk about shit like that without changing his demeanor into Serious Talk mode.
Aside from Ezra being a little too self-congratulatory on his expertise on "polarization" and going on a little too much, that was a very good podcast. (To be fair, I prefer an interview to a 'conversation' style for these kinds of things.)
And you know happens when kids are fed and not distracted by hunger? They learn.
'someone that looks like him' I didn't know who Walz was until today and I gotta admit his appearance tripped me up too, I think because he looks (to me, not great at faces) a bit like former (conservative) Australian PM John Howard, but without the bushy eyebrows.
my bf was just sharing this weekend that he worked at his (public, CA) school cafeteria during lunch…for lunch. Society has made some progress.
