Reminds me of how some more religiously right wing groups in Judaism think of these kinds of lines (caring for the poor, stranger etc). I’d argue this is basically the case for any religion or culture that achieves that level of self-interest in other areas.

Every religion loves the poor and down trodden until the moment they become the dominant, propertied class in a state and don’t have to be around those gross poors anymore.
