On the other, Rust's demands of concurrency and asynchrony, along with its comprehensive memory model, puts demands on my knowledge for which I lack the prior skills. So every textbook is a combination of lots of "Yeah I know that" yawns combined with regular "What the fucks!?"

Rust docs annoy me because it avoids things that are ideologically incompatible with its stance but are actually useful, like real ass objects. Ditto for things that should work but don't because the analysis hasn't caught up, like statically known disjoint elements of a mutable array.
