Thanks!
Somewhat true (depending on the year) It's just worth noting that kids people have today only make a difference to the economy 20 years from now
Sure, and we should do that But... That will only work for so long, assuming their home countries get better and people stop wanting to leave
That said, I imagine it will work itself out, given that it will take a couple of generations for problems to reveal themselves I just think that if pops do dwindle, there's a good chance quality of life for everyone will go down unless we replace workers with tech that functions
My sister has 4 kids, so that means by my math I should have 2, but I'm not doing that Still, if some people aren't going to have kids, some folks ought to have more just to keep the pop on an even keel
It used to be that only like 20% of children survived, so having 10 kids to end up with 2 to keep the farm going or support the parents made sense These days, I believe it's closer to 80% (which is actually frighteningly low, why not 100%?) but that still means 3 kids on average would do it
Robotics may solve some of these problems, but if the current tech ecosystem is any indication, we're going to get a lot of the wrong flavor Jell-O in our 90s; and probably a lot of the wrong meds, too We can't even get iPhones and Android phones to speak the same text protocol anymore
China is catching up with the rest of the world to have it's own system that needs workers, so is India In the Americas things are getting better in some countries, they will eventually not have spare folks to send (assuming we put together better immigration policies and other countries get safer)
Not for nothing, but since well-educated (and usually wealthier, globally) folks tend to have fewer kids, the better a country is doing, the smaller their population will be, and immigration will only solve that problem for so long The current US system is highly dependent on a large worker pool
...all the billionaires' money, it still won't cover 30 years of non-productivity and 10-15 years of medical and maintenance personnel for people living from 70-100 I mean, we can keep SS solvent, and we can afford health care from 0-70 year olds But it's so expensive beyond that
