The thing I think is that bugs me the most about generative AIs false promises - beyond the climate impact, beyond the plagiarism - is that in very many contexts writing is coterminous with thinking and if you outsource your writing you've outsourced your thinking.
i thought that re-reading Chris would be impossible for weeks, months, maybe years. his voice is so distinct, so present and alive in his work, & especially this one - which he sent me drafts and proofs of for months, & then gave me this signed copy. but I feel better reading it than i have in weeks
