lycanthropy in the earthblood universe is broken down into two types - Accursed and Inherent Inherent lycans are born with the ability to shift at-will. They are still urged by the moon, but have better control over shifting and retain most coherency when shifted (unless under duress).

Accursed are those who have been forcibly turned - accidentally or otherwise - and have less control over when and where they shift. They are emotionally volatile in that way, high emotions make them turn, and they lack control when shifted unless otherwise trained and assisted by inherents.
