But if Democrats oppose it, or want a policy of their own, no matter how reasonable or popular their position it, it will only be legitimate if they persuade Republicans to go along with it.

So we see the Republicans attack everything from human rights to democracy itself, openly embrace genocide and call for the extermination of the opposition, and the only response from the press is to say "since Republicans want this it would be improper for democrats to oppose."
