A simple solution…use a VPN and set it to a country whose language you don’t understand (or whose language sounds nice and pleasant - Spanish or French works for me). The ads will be played, the content creators get paid but you don’t have to hear the ads! It’s a win-win :-)

20+ years of Linux as a user (home desktops, laptops, mostly Debian and openSUSE). Succumbed to the MacBook hype about 3 years ago and bought an MBP M1. Fantastic hardware, mediocre software. Boy, do I miss Linux :-( Seriously thinking of getting a new Thinkpad and putting Debian on it.

Jeez - sorry to hear that. My heart goes out to you and your spouse. It harks back to the 1950’s (or modern day Iran!) in terms of tolerance and acceptance. I wish I had something more positive to say, but modern society broken. I wish you and your spouse the best. Hopefully it’ll get better

More thoughts…I visited London late last year for first time in years. Thought it was really open and progressive, esp. compared to Dublin. Sometimes, perception can be distorted by news and social media. Is there a chance that you’re seeing only the bad things about the UK based on media bias??

Irish here. There’s a sad level of fascism and right-wing nut jobs gaining a foot hold in both the UK and here. Sad really. Personally I put this down to lack of education and the rise of social media. It behooves all parents to teach their kids about tolerance and to shun the extremes. Sad.

Listened to a podcast today. Guest says that demographics alone won’t work to change things. There’s a whole new generation coming up who will never have experienced the benefits of EU membership, so they will need to be convinced. Interesting discussion: podcasts.apple.com/ie/podcast/b...

The membership conditions have changed since the early 70’s when the UK last joined. Good luck getting these past the electorate. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copenha...
