Utterly baffled by our local police force's objections to new cycle parking because it will mean more bike theft. I am now going to assume that they're going to object to new shops cos they'll create more shoplifting, and new housing cos more burglaries. Oh and new roads, cos more speeding.

That would have been ok but for the last sentence. TVP has always been wrong-headed on active travel.

That is utter madness from TVP!

As a deterrent, they could give away U-locks.

Maybe if we weren't wasting so many police man hours running after current and ex Prime Ministers we might be able to reduce crime.

Also, no more hiring cops or hours for cops because that would mean more arrests.

It’s TVP. They’re just plain old shit.

Surely proper cycle parking makes it easier to secure a bike than if they’re left in random places?

This is crazy! The most effective way of stopping cycles getting stolen is the provision of effective cycle racks that allow a good quality U lock to lock the frame to the rack. If you want to put CCTV in too, great, but push for it, don't block the storage.

Their reasoning seems fine to me. They are saying make sure there is adequate security for the bikes. Pretty reasonable.

Someone should ask them if that same theory applies to car parking.
