and my standpoint remains: if it doesn't matter to you at all, YOU do not matter to me at all. I don't trust you, I don't want you in my circle
Cowardice because we grow in numbers and the numbers on the left favor a response. They simply don't want to engage Showing how bad it is in Gaza doesn't matter; Biden's complicity is irrelevant not because of the election but because...it doesn't matter, period, to them
I've absolutely known people who said they're not in a position to be vocal about this because they feel they'd lose a job (this is used to push off ANY vocal discussion - I don't mean showing up at Palestinian marches, I mean saying ANYTHING, ANYWHERE about Gaza). Cowardice at this point, sorry
From what I have seen from people I know who say they're broadly sympathetic to Palestinians but don't want to get into it too much, what's still going on is genuine cowardice OR just - they don't care. Cowardice: if I take a stand, I stand to lose out career-wise/socially
I think it's easy to say that a lot of the reason there's no willingness to grapple with this is the terror of a trump presidency; i.e., criticize this/pull support from dems and we get a fascist pres. But I think that's a facile excuse and easy retreat.
It's sort of pathetic of me given everything else that has ever happened but a part of me really thought once the full extent of US involvement began to be shaken loose, there'd actually be some sort of reckoning. Not really.
I remember saying something to my mother in about November or so along the lines of "someday, the extent of US complicity in Israel's war crimes every step of the way in particular since Oct 7 will be illuminated, and it'll be shocking" I forgot the part where no one cared before, so they won't now
Reuters has obtained emails that prove high ranking Biden administration officials were warned in the immediate days following October 7th of potential Israeli war crimes and mass starvation, only for the White House and Brett McGurk in particular to ignore the warnings and dismiss them out of hand.
As the Gaza war nears its first anniversary, previously unreported email exchanges between senior Biden administration officials show that Washington was warned early on that Israel might be committing war crimes.
They're putting up racist immigration policy, I feel unsafe as a trans person, the US is paying for a genocide carried out in my name as a Jew and I see burned babies every day that we helped kill, and we're watching climate change roil the south. How can anyone compartmentalize and not be outraged
mind rotating around how everyone goes "they have to do it (far right border policies, ignoring palestinian and lebanese communities, etc) to win the moderates" for elections and wondering what the reaction would be from these groups if someone started pitching "harris has to support KOSA to win"
"we have to go where the polling is, sorry" so, the popularity of a ceasefire and cutting aid to israel "no, not that one" legalized weed "no, not that one" deeply increased minimum wage "no, not that one" anything even close to M4A "no, not that one" so which ones "oh, you know the ones"
