I was once broken up with over facebook messenger, and while I took umbrage at the impersonal n ature of a message & did follow it up with a phone call, I've long since forgotten anything said during that phone call or any number of in-person breakups but have looked at that message again.

There's something to be said about the ability to go back and re-experience that kind of message again when you've moved on and are in a better headspace to really reflect. At the time it kind of sucked, but 15 years later there's something to be said for the fact that it absolutely made sense.
