Yes they DID want to be encumbered, early tabletop games were about heavy simulation! early video game designers adopted tabletop quirks because they *loved* simulation, later designers copied them, mistaking a love of simulation for generically good mechanics

looks nice in context, v1 had more colors but I found the silhouetted look of the minimal 4 color palette makes it look a bit nicer, I guess the contrast is more dramatic and appealing?
