Lots of people are making this observation. I keep thinking about how you would investigate it. Normally, you'd have some HSI (Homeland Security Investigations, an agency you've never heard of) buy one of these and see what happens. But for $100K?
I don’t know, man, a $100,000 watch that can be bought with bitcoin and that kicks back money to Trump seems like maybe it’s selling more than a watch. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...
In the wake of the indictment of New York City Mayor Eric Adams, it’s worth considering how Trump’s profiteering could be abused.
Why HSI? And wouldn't they have to insist on a quid pro quo in the process? Otherwise just take the "coin" and say, chee, t'anks.
Why does one need to buy at all? Serve the payment processor and bank with a warrant.
Money laundering in plain sight. Americans aren’t buying these watches.
The $100k watch is a picture on a website selling $100 watches for $500 and $800. That's the con, here: selling cheap watches to people who think it's a 'luxury brand'. An actual billionare made more from interest in the time you took to read this post than Trump will from this whole scheme.
If you pry off the back cover out pops 200 shares of djt stock?
$100k for a Trump watch? Mind bigly boggling. I did think about buying a Rolex last year as an investment, I don’t really like the look of them, but in the end couldn’t be arsed. But at least they’re genuine watches. This is a tremendous grift.
Could they use bitcoin they’d seized elsewhere?
Yes, a CIA agent, for example, would buy the $100,000 watch using CIA/USA funds and then track and investigate what happens next. And unlike many nation states, e.g., China, Russia and Israel, US Government agents are not allowed to keep the watch or the money used to buy it.
There’s still time left in the fiscal year 🤓😬
