i have found people on fedi (short for the fediverse, which includes but is not limited to mastodon) to be incredibly kind, generous, and supportive. without them i 100% would've been homeless before i could've gotten kitsune tails out i'm sorry y'all had a bad experience, but that isn't universal

a lot of these takes seem to come from people with large audiences who joined mastodon and treated it just like twitter and were mortified to find out what life without the allowances of a blue-check was actually like, but who also refused to move to an instance with a team of engaged moderators

I will say this about mastodon et al: it's the only place I've found where if you post an actual question, you get an actual answer! That's an objectively good thing!
