I don’t think many non-Japanese speakers know how dominant/popular Twitter has been in Japan—probably because unlike other social networks, it’s friendly to pseudonymity+ it’s text-based rather than image or video-centered. Its disintegration has real consequences for Japan (and elsewhere).
Yeah I took a mo in the Minorities lesson to point out Musk’s racism to my Japanese students in case they missed it
All of Twitter has been restructured to serve the presumed interests of paying users, which, unsurprisingly, is not a good way to structure an information network if you want it to share information. Ideology aside, Twitter doesn’t WORK well now, driving people to leave, making it still less useful.
