In honor of my friend who tried to go to a ren faire in 82 degree weather today and texted me demanding why they nearly cooked: a historical costuming thread. “How DID they wear so much clothing and not die?!” A couple of things. One, most obvious, is danged climate change. It’s hotter.

When I did Ren Faires (in PA), my costume upgrade was cotton and linen and an unboned corset that looked boned (tube boning). Changed my life and comfort level big time.

Can confirm the acclimation point. Grew up in Mexico and Australia. Moved to England at 17. Wasn't until I was around 23 that I stopped wearing coats in the summer here. Some 20 years later now and I start to melt if it's anything above 20c.
