This map is of states defining trans people out of the law entirely. They erase trans and intersex people by eliminating them from any legal recognition of their gender identity. This includes drivers licenses, death certificates, and more. Four states now do this.

11 states are now considered "safe states" for trans people fleeing other states. These states have explicit protections for trans people, their caregivers, and often also abortion providers and patients. Oregon was slated to be the 12th, but a Republican walkout has stymied it.
