So part of how I got fired as a NASA civil servant in my probationary time is that I openly said all of that was raging bullshit and that given requirements to work on site with provided equipment all postdocs should fill our IRS form SS-8 for illegal misclassification & tax fraud 😬
How dare you call out the truth and risk those delicious federal funds
