That was about engagement and advertising, too. Assigning moral motivation to a corporation is a big assumption when they exist primarily for profit.
There is no doubt that corporate journalism is rife with sensationalism to drive clicks, but that is not the main driving force behind this ridiculous article. In this case it's the rabid moral panic going on.
The corp didn't write the article. The human journalist did. Right now there is a huge moral panic about social media ruining the kids from normies, to journalists, to the legislature. This same thing happens with literally every new technology.
