I tried everything lol - authorized repair shop, random repair shop, tried repairing it myself with random youtube vids. The screen ribbon was fried, that was easy enough to replace. But I think it just bricked itself in general.

Ah that’s a shame. With Game Boys they’re straight forward enough that it’s fairly easy to troubleshoot issues. A 3DS is much more complex.
