One of my high school teachers was very slowly easing toward being out when I was there - had gotten to "open secret" stage. About ten years later he started a GSA. He was still the only out gay teacher for a long time after that. At his funeral his family and priest said ZERO about his being gay.

Gosh, that's awful that they still wouldn't acknowledge his existence as a gay man. But it gladdens my heart that people like him are so GSAs can continue to exist
