There have been many stories of companies giving up user data to stalkers and other criminals pretending to be cops with emergency data requests, but this one stands out because it's so utterly shambolic. The stalker submitted his request using a protonmail address FFS.
A stalker haphazardly posing as a cop demanded sensitive data from Verizon. Verizon complied, and the stalker drove to an address armed with a knife. 404 Media spoke to the victim.
It's not even hard to address. Wait until you get a warrant, lookup the number on the warrant to verify legit issuer, call number to verify issuance of warrant. This is "Not appearing on the 6-o-clock news 101."
