My dudes, Telegram is not an e2e messaging app like Signal or WhatsApp. Telegram is more like Twitter. It is a social media app that is mostly public content that also happens to have DMs, where you can turn on e2e messaging with questionable cryptography that most people never even bother to use.
Just anecdotal but the only people I’ve met in the wild who use telegram are bitcoin turds.
I've always thought Telegram was a very secure app. Consider me educated and converted
Maybe not an issue of 'encrypted', but of user anonymity? With pure end to end encryption (no man in the middle), arresting the web site owner gets you little. The chance to identify anonymous users of the service engaged in illegal activities might get a government security agency a LOT!
Especially if you're a nonce, nazi or drug dealer.
So many people think it’s a secure messaging platform I wonder why
Don't tell that to right wing chuds. One claims he was able to clean his digital foot print. lmao been reading his telegram and his gab account posting.
There is always Threema, if you wish to trust the Swiss.
I am still a little concerned that this is a small step from similar actions against CEOs of other encrypted messaging apps that have refused to allow a backdoor for authorities to police encrypted communications.
Some people need it to be about encryption so they can claim it's a free speech issue, thereby gaining Magic Deflection Powers.
Til! Thanks!
