It's so frustrating to see this even from those putatively on our side, the cause is not complex! When housing is too scarce and too expensive some people won't get it.
As someone who was in the latter group and is now feeling pretty nervous about November, you're right to be concerned. That said, similar to the situation with Roe, those of use in blue cities in blue states will be in the safer places and to the extent we can, focus on helping those who aren't.

I think people on Reddit/posting about ground beef prices are likely to be more price sensitive even adjusting for income/ability to pay.
People are also spending the same share of their budget on beef as before the pandemic/inflation spike. I also suspect that people on Reddit might be more price-sensitive than average even after accounting for income.
There is still some potential to understate current excess mortality even using a model based on 2015-2019 rates, but given the magnitude of the decrease the takeaway (mortality is much, much lower than peak pandemic and close to baseline) likely wouldn't change.
