I mean, I do think you're right: that degree of avoidant behavior is because many are too frightened to face reality. The "are you AFRAID??" mantra of pro-infection folks feels v telling. Acknowledging COVID is life-threatening would leave them terrified, so you must be beside yourself!

I would rather admit when things are bad, so I can deal with them. It was a real wake-up call to find out that most people don't prefer this at all.
