Obama's refusal to prosecute anyone for the W administration's crimes or the frauds at the heart of the financial crisis is a central yet underappreciated factor behind the entire Trump phenomenon.
It’s been decades in the making. Nixon got a pardon, Reagan got beatified, Obama said he’d “look forward not backwards” about W’s crimes… right wing/natsec oligarchs are too big to jail, and they know it.
He’s right though sadly. Even if the Dems win we have decades of examples of how opposed they are to enforcing the rule of law on their political opponents.
Even if Musk fails it’s still unlikely that Democrats will make any serious effort to hold him accountable, given their track record the last few decades.
Judges aren’t idiots, but they are political actors and they know who pays for their vacations.
As a registered PA voter who is never, ever, voting for Trump… I should still sign up for the Musk petition, right? Free money and confusion to my enemies?
I’m not sure if it’s amazing how little that seems to have mattered, or just amazing anyone could still be surprised by how little something like that matters anymore.
