Happy Pride to all the other unmarketable queers out there. I don't got the sexy, cute, polished look that's the running theme of LGBT marketing. No latchable persona. No salacious stories with smooching where you find identity through dating. Queerness more...congealed around me.

"Queerness congealed around me." Goddamn, that's a perfect way of putting it for me too. It just kinda happened as if I tripped into a queer puddle around puberty and it dried on.

S a m e. For me it's like a crust or skin that slowly started growing over time (sometimes flaking off or uneven) and it's taken me so many years to even start to feel comfortable moving in it and showing it, so to speak. I definitely relate to this!

Theres a lot of unspoken pressure to do so, but creators really don't have to make our sexuality/gender the focus of our work. It's OK to not want to make that your Brand or whatever.

I remember a cooking show that had a gay guy on it, and he gave an impassioned and only halfway joking speech about, "I mean to prove that a gay man doesn't have to be a great cook. I will be television's first 'just okay' gay cook."
