it is baffling to me how many news people are just trying to politely ignore Threads and Meta’s emphatic, repeated statements that the site is actively hostile to news

honestly, down with this change. the fb/insta/threads userbase has shown it cannot be reasonably trusted to discuss real world issues without creating new real world issues. maybe some people just need to be put in the apolitical happiness chambers.
Meta has completely banned news links in Canada. Their sites malfunction if you try to post news and if a news link is posted, their msg is that they've blocked the link & they blame the Canadian govt.
They managed to ignore Elon Musk’s antics for a lot longer than I expected.
Another problem (of many) to consider regarding Meta.. How many of us here have had acct restrictions/suspensions/bans over trivial posts there? Meanwhile, for years, FB continued to allow disinformation and hate accounts to spread their garbage. Reporting those accounts accomplished nothing.
Ya, I just did a repost of this because of Meta's fuckery regarding Canadian news too. I've become really grateful for Bsky and being able to SEE and promote local Canadian news again. I can't see jack shit on any Meta platform.
