Another key theme of the last decade: people being SHOCKED and ASTOUNDED when being a belligerent asshole to others all the time results in unpleasant consequences they didn’t anticipate
The whole Justified speech where "You run into an asshole in the morning, you ran into an asshole; you run into assholes all day you might be the asshole," seems to be appropriate.
this isn’t wrong But I’m also concerned about inculcating a tendency to see false positive in people who struggle with 2+2=5 social situations, folks with a special interest (in a detail) that they won’t brook being passed over. In other words I worry our tolerance for autist behaviors is declining
Choosing not to pay your lawyers when they fail to get wanted court result may lead to lower quality lawyers for future cases, and even more unwanted court results when they forget to submit evidence before the trial starts. Not sure that counts as unanticipated consequences though.
I yelled at a dude being a belligerent ass in a restaurant the other week and he added whining about me to his whine to the manager like the manager was going to kick out the easy table
And the direct follow-on from that is said people believing that the consequences represent some sort of infringement of their 1st A rights
Millennials killed being an asshole. Their greatest triumph imo.
So so so so much of politics at the moment is about the worst and most annoying people being so so annoying and then playing victim when people get fed up and pushback.
What's even worse is the entire cottage industry that sprang up around explaining how that is totally unfair, and how being a total asshole is actually morally superior
surprises me every time
It seems to me that a lot of people like it when you're belligerent towards their foes and that reinforces a dynamic of continuous belligerence for attention.
