Pretty cool how both Facebook and Twitter have become absolute cesspools for disaster response updates and news in the space of two years. Twitter especially used to be a key resource. Now they largely serve to spread lies that will get aid workers killed.

Love that we get to find out in a month whether liberal society can survive when social media is overwhelmingly controlled by right wing billionaires.

I think it shows mostly that (1) the true volume of actual chodes is small; and that (2) people, given the chance to self police, will choose to avoid chodes and generally be respectful and kind to each other. The chodes will always be with us, but we don’t have to cede the public square to them.

Yea, I think about how useful Twitter and FB were during the 2020 CZU Complex fire. They were the only sources of reliable information and now I'd only bother to check FB and then only the local groups with people I can (mostly) trust. Hopefully WatchDuty can start leveraging Bluesky more.
