To be fair, it was the Tories carbon tax that did for coal fired stations. Ratcliffe only remained open so much longer than the rest as they decided in around 2010(?) to invest tens of millions into SNCR to reduce NOx emissions, so they wanted to get some sort of payback, via the capacity market.
