what it all boils down to is that you should make nominally "disabled" characters look plenty damn able do not make the world around them look like it's been nerfed for them the blind chick from avatar is called toph, not weke
for a long time the best way to make somebody look like a badass you dont wanna fuck with has been to put them in a place that very physically imposing folks would be nervous like the wild west or something, give them a scarred eye, a missing hand, let everyone ponder why they ain't dead yet
i agree that -some- disabilities don't make sense in all settings you could call "fantasy" but the instant you have magic anything or supertech that mostly goes out the window, fantasy as a whole has been preoccupied with disability for 100s of years like blind seers, mad prophets, missing limbs
