Widening Gender Gaps? The how, why and so what of gendered democratic participation on social media
In the midst of the growing interest in social media as an important platform for political participation, we need to investigate whether traditional gender gaps in political participation are enlarged or reduced. Some studies primarily relying on survey data show no substantial gender difference in political participation on social media, in terms of liking and commenting on political content, while others find gender gaps in likelihood of posting political content and tone of comments. However, we call for papers and presentations using social media data to further explore gender gaps in political activism.

Time: 15 December 2023 9-13
Place: TBA (CSS, University of Copenhagen)
Deadline for proposals for papers/presentations: 1 November 2023 to gender@ifs.ku.dk
Organizers: Hjalmar Bang Carlsen (SODAS) & Karina Kosiara-Pedersen
